The United States Courthouse - one of the many historic stops on the Tour Around the Green
WALKING TOUR AROUND THE GREEN
This tour is truly about the heart and soul of historic downtown New Haven and the key points of interest around the Green.The Green is divided nearly in half by Temple Street.This particular tour goes around the eastern portion of the Green and starts at the southeast corner where Church and Chapel meet, goes north on Church, Left (or West) on Elm, then Left again on Church to bring you back where you started. The tour begins at the mystical Bennett Memorial Fountain.It continues on to the New Haven City sign, the Flagpole War Memorial (honoring those that died in WWI), the United States Post Office & Courthouse (although it no longer houses a Post Office), the Amistad Memorial, the New Haven City Hall, the Old Courthouse (the County Courthouse), the FREE Public Library, the Graduate Club, the United Church, Center Church and Trinity Church.
This tour is guided by Carolyn Walker and Miriam James.Carolyn is a Connecticut native who grew up in nearby Milford.She left the State after college only to return “home” 10 years later.Carolyn now works in the Ninth Square of New Haven, just a few blocks from the starting point of this tour.Miriam is a native of North Carolina.She now lives in the Westville section of New Haven and works in nearby Hamden at People’s Bank.Both are delighted and honored to bring you this tour and to be a part of the Arts & Culture Team of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Leadership Center’s class of 2007.
